Year 6 Kestrels 2026 - 2027

Welcome to Year 6

Spellings

Spelling tests will happen each week on a Monday morning. Children will then learn new spellings in the lesson, the list of new spellings will go home with the children on a Monday. Children can access the spellings on EdShed www.edshed.com all children have their own login details, which have been sent home, please ensure they are using this website to help improve their spelling knowledge several times a week for 15 minutes.

Reading

Children will be encouraged to quietly read during allocated time, so it would be useful if they could bring a reading book to school with them. Please continue to listen to children reading at home a few times a week.

Physical Education

The children will have PE on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child comes into school on Tuesday with their PE Kit on (black shorts or track suit bottoms; red PE T-Shirt with school logo and black 1/4 zip with school logo on).

Homework

In addition to reading, spellings and times table rockstars, children will recieve Maths and Literacy homework on a Friday, ideally ensure these are handed in on Wednesday as we will mark them in the class on Friday.

Snack

Snack is available during morning break, the menu is in the classroom for the children to see the prices, they will need cash if they want to buy anything. If snacks are brought in from home, please ensure that the follow the school policy of a healthy snack - no crisps, chocolate or sweets.

Walking Home

Walking home letters will be sent out in the first week of term, if there are any changes to this, please contact the office or come and speak to Mrs Waters.

SATs Tests

As you are probably aware, the children will be sitting their end of primary school SATs tests in May. We will be holding an information evening on the 23rd of Setember at 4.30pm.

We ask that parents do not access online past papers to administer to your child at home - we will be using all of them in school to aid our own in house assessment and check for gaps in learning. If the children have already seen them, it causes us problems!

In the meantime, please feel free to access the information leaflet in the 'Files to Download' section below.

We look forward to a great year ahead!

Mrs Waters and Mrs Richards
