Year 6 Kestrels 2023 - 2024

Miss Cooper

Year 3 and 4 Teacher

Welcome to Year 6

Our topic in the Autun Term is "Endangered!"

Spellings

New spellings will be taught on a Monday, where a 'Look, Cover, Write, Check' sheet will be given out for children to practice these new spellings at home. During the rest of the week, children will be given a variety of activities based around these spellings to help embed the new pattern or rule. Instead of a weekly spelling test, children will be assessed on the spellings they have learnt so far at the end of each half-term, with this including 3-4 words from each week. All children now have their own login details, which have been sent home, to access www.spellingframe.co.uk and should be using this website to help improve their spelling knowledge several times a week for 15 minutes.

PE Session

The children will have their outdoor PE lesson with a Sports Coach on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child comes into school on Wednesday with their PE Kit on. School policy is the red T-Shirt with school logo, black shorts or black track suit bottoms (or leggings) and the red hooded jumper with school logo.

Homework

In addition to reading, spellings and time  table rockstars, children will recieve homework on the class page on a Monday and a Friday to be completed for the following Monday and Friday.

PLEASE NOTE: Much of the homework this year will take the form of practice papers in readiness for end of year SATS.

SATs Tests

As you are probably aware, the children will be sitting their end of primary school SATs tests in May. We will be holding an information evening later on in the term. Watch this space for details..

We ask that parents do not access online past papers to administer to your child at home - we will be using all of them in school to aid our own in house assessment and check for gaps in learning. If the children have already seen them, it causes us problems!

In the meantime, please feel free to access the information leaflet in the 'Files to Download' section below.

We look forward to the year ahead...
