Cheshire West Cross Country
Lesson: Physical education
Class: Year 3/4 Ravens Year: 2025 - 2026
On Saturday, it was the first in a series of 4 races in the WCAC Schools Cross Country Championhips. Each year, our team gets bigger and bigger and for the first race we had 17 runners.
As always, the first race was the Year 3 girls. At the start line, Annie found several runners ahead of her so in the first lap she had to make up a lot of ground and do lots of overtakes. She ran a solid race and finished in 5th place and so can be very proud of how well she did in her first race. For our Year 3 boys, Austin and Theo got off to a great start and were up there with the leading group. It was a tense sprint finish for Austin to claim bronze and Theo made a top 10 finish.
We had a large group of Year 4 pupils. For the girls, Jessica once again won silver, adding to the medals she won last year. Her close friend Hattie looked certain to finish in 4th, but she had other ideas! In the finishing straight it was hammer time! She ran down the girl in front of her and dipped for the line to win a bronze medal. It was a fantastic race for Farndon as Anna also came in 6th, Eva finished 8th and Scarlett 9th and Lilly also finished just outside the top 10; a team gold is very much on. Marcus and Dash were our runners for the boys. Marcus showed periods of real pace and ran well to finish. Dash had been training hard in the week before the race and he was determined to come back with a medal. On the run in, he was being caught, but Dash had enough left in the tank for a final burst to win the bronze medal.
We had several runners missing for Year 5. Evelyn ran for the girls and her confidence was high after a 3rd place in the Heber Cross Country. She got off to a good start, but didn't feel in top form. She finished well for her highest ever finish - 5th. Blake, last year's overall gold winner, didn't get off to a good start, but quickly made his way through the field. After the first lap, he was well placed in second. He crossed the line in second for another silver medal to add to his collection.
Finally, the Year 6 pupils took to the start line. George ran a great race a finished strongly. Oscar made his debut in this event a can be proud of a top 5 finish. For the girls, Sienna ran strongly again to finish within the top 5. Polly, keen to improve on last year having won gold in Year 3, was in a determined mood. She led from the front and although she was pushed at the end, she held on to claim gold.
Of the 24 medals on off, Farndon claimed 6 of them - that's a quarter! 1 Gold; 2 Silver; 3 Bronze. Myself and Dan could not be more proud of all our brilliant athletes.
