Handball Tournament

On Thursday, handball took centre stage and we took a strong team this year and hope to improve on last year when we didn't get out of the group.

Our first match was agaisnt Malpas. We weren't quite warmed up and it was a cagey start. Isaac, the team captain, starting things off with a terrifc goal. Edith had several shots saved, but Seb made sure of the pojnts with a well taken goal. George did a terrific save in goal to keep it 2 - 0 at the end. Next up, we faced Tilston and we were caught napping when they scored an early goal. But then we found our rhythm. Seb oozed confidence and scored two in succession, but Tilston scored to level things once again. It was then where everything clicked! We had a penalty which we scored and then Seb went on a scroing spree. A 7 - 2 win and Seb scored all 7 goals!

Our final group stage match was against Tattenhall and it was a cracker! Seb missed an early penalty, but Ellis found space and scored his first. George pulled off some great saves and then Seb scored to make it 2 - 0. We thought we were cruising, but Tattenhall roared back with 3 goals. Seb had been rested. but was thrown back into the action. Seb scored to level things and with time running out, Eloise launched a well directed long ball to Seb who scored his third. However, we were robbed of a third victory, conceding a late goal which meant it ended 4 - 4.

Having won the group on goal difference, we faced Tushingham in the semi-final. Now we were firing on all cylinders! Seb scored a penalty and Isaak and Seb were linking beautifully for Seb to scored a second. Eloise did another one of her terrific long balls a Seb scored a fourth. He was rested and the game ended 5 - 2, with Ellis scoring just before the whistle.

In the final, we faced the champions from las tyear - Bickerton. We started brightly and had plenty of possession and shots but couldn't find a way past their keeper. However, they then broke and they scored with a well taken goal that squeezed into the bottom corner. After going behind, the team lost their shape a little, and were too quick to try to pass to Seb, who was heavily marked. Harley in goal kept us in it with a string of saves. At 2 - 0, Seb scored and it was game on! However, the Bickerton pressure led to two more goals. Isaak scored a wonderful consolation goal and it ended 4 - 2.

Runners up this time. Isaak put in a real captain's performance and Seb was an absolute goal machine! A brilliant performance and a huge improvement on last year. Player of the tournament - Seb Schwarz.
