Farndon Soapbox Race
Lesson: PSHE and citizenship
On Sunday 14th September, it was the fourth running of the Soapbox race and the school was once again at the heart of the action!
Mr Bond, as always, played a huge part in the organisation of the event and there were more karts than ever.
School had their team again which consisted of Mr Bond, Mr McCann and Mr Walker, all dressed as Roman Gladiators. Their kart was an impressive Roman chariot. This year, we had the Mario Brothers, Jurassic Park and even Cruella de Vil with her many dalmations. There was also the weird and the wonderful with a pizza slice, Lightening McQueen and one with a football goal on the back!
Several karts had a movie theme and one team had an unfair advantage with an X-Wing capable of light speed and a team of Jedi Masters who could use the force! However, the stand out kart was the Pirates of the Caribbean. Captain Jack and his crew had a magnificent boat, complete with firing cannons and golden coins were even thrown out to the crowd.
Our school team performed well, completing 3 clean runs without crashing! Mr Bond was 36 seconds, Mr McCann 38 and Mr Walker 44. Sadly, we were the only team to do three runs, as poor weather conditions brought an early end to all the drama. The rain may have dampened people's spirits, but it won't have affected the event raising lots of valuable money for such a worthy cause - The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
As always, a big thank you to the organising committee, all the entries who took part and all the volunteers who helped the event roon smoothly and safely.
