Heber Football Tournament

Lesson: Physical education

Class: Year 1 and 2 Squirrels Year: 2025 - 2026

On the last day of half term, we had not one but two football tournaments at the Heber.

First up was the Year 1 and 2 pupils. Our first opponents were Shocklach. Ted crossed and Eric did a sweet first time finish. Ted added a second before Ted scored another 2 goals after some wonderful through balls. Our second match was a tough one. Eric scored early, but they dominated the game. However, Seb made several crucial saves and Edie defended well, making some great tackles and we won. After such a tough game, there was no let up from Tilston. They scored early and we were on the back foot. With time running out, Riella scored a debut goal to make it 1 - 1.  Our final match was against Bickerton and the Farndon found their groove! Molly kept that all important clean sheet in goal. Ted scored a hat trick, and Eric scored again. Then, Eric played a lovely through ball to Riella, who smashed it into the goal. Before the final whistle, Thomas hit a long range shot and it squeezed in past the keeper for a 6 - 0 win. It was a tense wait to find out who won overall, as it went to goal difference! The team erupted when it was announced they had come first and won a lovely gold trophy.

Player of the Tournament: Eric (Capt) Not just for his assists and all his goals, but also for his inspring leadership and encouraging his team-mates.

After school, it was the turn of the Year 4 pupils. The Stripes were led by Mr Bond. They started with a fine win against Malpas with Amber keeping a clean sheet in goal and Lucas knicked a winner! They then faced Tilston, who had already beaten Farndon Blacks. Harry was a rock in midfield, tackling like Steven Gerrard in his prime! Marcus was a constant threat down the flank. Wtih time running out, Tilston scored so it was a narrow 1 - 0 loss. However, they bounced straight back with confident victories against Tushingham (A) and Tushingham (B). The victories were built on a sold defence with Heidi (the General) snuffing out any danger. The Bickerton game could have gone either way, but it finished in a 0 - 0 draw.

Farndon Blacks played Tilston first and we were caught cold! Tilston went two goals up in a matter of minutes. Ethan scored a screamer, but it was a 2 -1 defeat. It was another tough match and it could of gone either way. Then, we scored the perfect team goal with 4 or 5 short passes and clinical Alfie finish. The next match was Tushingham (A) and now the team was firing on all cyclinders! Alfie scored with a log shot  and Jessica and Dash added more goals. We then had another comprehensive win against Tushingham (B). Two more crucial matches lay ahead. Malpas were tough opponents. However, Ethan did a gorgeous turn in the box and finished neatly. Jess then went on a solo run, beating 3 players and scored, and then assisted Aflie for a 3 - 0 win.

And so it came down to the final game. Farndon Blacks versus Farndon Stripes. A win for the Stripes and they would take the title. A draw or better would hand the trophy to the Blacks. There was chances for both sides, but ultimately, they cancelled each other out and it ended 0 - 0. The result meant the Stripes finished in fourth and the Blacks won by just 1 point.

Stripes Player of the Tournament; Harry Brierley - driven with such passion and desire meant he totally dominated the midfield for his team.

Blacks Player of the Tournament: Alfie Waters - when he played well, the team played well and scored and assisted several of the teams goals.

An amazing well done to all our players that took part.
