Rugby Tournament

Class: Year 6 Kestrels Year: 2026 - 2027

After the win in the Cross Country, we were hoping to win back the trophy for rugby as we were runners up last year in the Heber tournament for Year 5 and 6. 

We took two teams - Farndon Reds and Farndon Blues. 

Mr Bond took charge of the Red team, who were captained by Harriet (Punisher). They started well with a 3 - 0 win over Tattenhall with tries from Niall, Nathan and Jemiah. Their second game was a tight affair against Malpas. Mr Bond thought it was a 1 - 1 draw, however the referee said it was a 1 - 0 victory. They were thankful for Nathan's try. The final game was against the Farndon Blues. They punished a mistake and scored first, but with time running out, Harry from Year 5 recevied the ball by the try line and scored to equalise, making it a 1 - 1 draw. 

Mr Walker took charge of the Blues and in the first game against Malpas we were lucky to come away with a 0 - 0 draw. However, in the second match agaisnt Tattenhall they found their rhythm and dominated. Teddy and Jonah both scored 2 tries and Jessica scored a wonderful try to win 5 - 1. A draw win the final game, meant BOTH Farndon teams made it through to the semi-finals!

Farndon Reds took on a tough Bickerton team. Harriet and Thomas managed to cross the try line and they were in the final after a 2 - 0 win. Farndon Blues played last year's winners - Tilston. They scored early, but then we totally dominated. Will, who is only in Year 4, raced across the line to make the scores level. Extra time was needed and the Blues had them pegged on their own try line. After several controversial decisions not to award a try when we crossed the line, Tilston broke away and scored. It was a sad end, particularly when they played so well and were on the wrong end of some questionable decisions. 

And so it was a re-match from last year - Farndon versus Tilston - and the match didn't disappoint. Each time Farndon scored a try, Tilston pulled it back to level things. Henry and Niall scored and with the score at 2 -2, Harriet thought she had scored the winner only to see it ruled out because her foot went into touch. With time running out, Thomas forced his way across the try line to make it a 3 - 2 victory - and he even had a nasty injury, having lost most of his nail on one hand. 

We could not have been prouder of both teams! Well done everyone.
