Fire of London Museum

Lesson: History

Class: Year 1 and 2 Squirrels Year: 2025 - 2026

On Friday, the families of our Infant pupils were transported back in time to 1666 and walked along Pudding Lane to see first hand the impact and devastation of the great fire of London. All the children's work was surrounded with candles and smothered in smoke (yes there was a smoke machine and yes it did set the fire alarm off!)

The tour began in Thomas Farriner's bakery and then weaved around the streets of London where parents could see the wonderful art work, their pulley systems in Design and Technology and their amazing writing. The children each had a station and were the "experts" and so were on hand to answer any of the parents' questions. Our visitors to the museum learned about how the fire started and spread, some of the historical artefacts like a fire hook and water pump and the legacy of this disaster which included the introduction of the fire brigade.

It was a wonderful morning and a real joy to see the confidence of our children, sharing all their knowledge that they have learned throughout the Spring term. And huge thanks must be given to all the adults for their hard work in pulling this altogether.
