Year Four Football Match

It was our final league match of the season against Cherry Grove. It was a winner takes all match - whoever won would earn a place in the Super 8s Finals. 

In our first two games we played well, dominated, but didn't take our chances; iin this match everything clicked!

We started with Henry up front for his pace and strength. In the first few minutes he burst into the box and slotted it calmly into the bottom left corner. After 10 minutes, it was 1 - 0. However, Jermiah was finding his form. He was wreaking havoc in midfield and was a constant threat. Niall finished confidently to make it 2 - 0 and Jermiah scored a super solo goal. The opposition couldn't handle Jermiah's skills and the only way they could stop him was to foul him. Up stepped Nathan. With his right foot, he curled a shot right into the top corner. A 4 - 0 half time lead; it could have been more, but Jonah's shot was well saved and Jermiah hit a rasping shot which hit the crossbar. 

Confidence was high. Teddy, Henry and Rory were unbeatable at the back. Anything any where near the goal was effectively dealt with by Kuba in goal. The second half was some the best football this season! Niall raced clear and tucked his shot neatly away in the bottom left corner. Jermiah scored another from distance. He also earned yet another free kick and Nathan claimed it for himself. No finesse this time - he just drilled it with power, bursting the net. 

And there was still time for the goal of the match. Teddy played it wide to Nathan, who then raced down the wing. Rory, playing the last 5 minutes up front, made a diagonal run to gather the ball and then dinked a lovely ball across the edge of the box to Blake, who applied the finish. A 9 - 0 victory and qualification for the Super 8s finals. 

Player of the match - it could have been anyone in this match. However, in this game, Jermiah showed his class. He ran the midfield, did countless mazy runs, several assists and scored a hat-trick himself.
