Year 4 Heber Rugby Tournament

After the Year 6 pupils won the Heber Rugby tournament last week, the Year 4 pupils were looking to replicate that success with a victory of their own.

We were slow out of the blocks! Finlay crossed the line early to put us one up against Tattenhall, but then the mistakes crept in. There were dropped catches, running into touch and stray passes. We were punished and lost 2 -1. The pressure was now on and we knew our other 2 matches were now must win!

Pressure - what pressure? In the second match against Malpas the team came to life. Finlay scored early and then Will pounced on a loose ball to cross the try line. Then, Will showed his class with a wonderful solo try. We were now in full flow and after passing out down the left flank, Iddy finished off a fine move. There was even time for Austin to score an amazing solo try and the match ended 5 - 1. Bickerton were our final opponents in the group stage and it was Iddy's turn to shine. He scored a brilliant solo try and then Will set him up for an easy try. Will then grabbed a loose ball and crossed the line and also chipped in with another great run that was nearly the whole length of the pitch. It was a convincing 4 - 1 win.

We made it to the semi-finals and we faced Tushingham. We dominated territory and didn't allow Tushingham to break through. Sophie and Leia were grabbing those tags and Annie was close to crossing the line. Will scored another magical try and Iddy finished a fine passing move to make it a 2 - 0 win. And so the final. Tilston were once again our opponents. They were a great side with several dangerous players. We started nervously with a few dropped balls when we were so close to the try line. Tilston punished us and scored to take an early lead. It would have been easy for the team to lose confidence, but it only made them even more determined! Team captain Will scored another one of his breathtaking tries and Finlay was back on the score sheet to give us the lead. It was tense, and Ralphie and Casey were relentless in getting those tags. As the clock ticked down, and our finger nails bitten to the quick, Will calmed the nerves with another solo try. A 3 - 1 victory and champions again.

We could not be more proud of the whole team. They spent every lunch break training and each and every player gave it their all. Champions.
