Year 4 Football Tournament

Our Year 4 boys took part in the Chester FC tournament. We took a strong squad of 7 to play 5-a-side matches against other schools across Chester.

Our first opponents were Our Ladys. We started strongly and we were passing with confidence. On the edge of the box, the ball bounced nicely for Harry H and he hit a half volley into the bottom corner. However, 2 errors led to goals by the opposition and with time running out, Alfie had a great chance, but it sailed over the bar. We started with a 2 - 1 loss.

In the second match against St Werburghs our players found their form. They dominated possession and Ethan scored from a corner. Then, Harry put in a great cross which the goalkeeper fumbled into his own goal. We conceded again, but that only triggered a response from our team. Dash hit one from range which hit the top corner; Harry M pushed up from the back and finished well; and Alfie pressed hard, and then finished neatly to make it a 5 -1 victory.

Our last game was against Upton Heath, and a win could be enough to qualify. We started well and Alfie had a good chance saved. Oliver came out of goal and nearly put us ahead. But then came the sucker punch! They broke down the right and put in a great cross for their attacker to have a tap in at the back post. Our heads dropped a little after that and Harry M saved shot after shot. He kept us in the game, but a late goal led to a 2 – 0 defeat.

It is fair to say they all had a great experience and we learned a lot, which we can use in our next tournament at the Heber. Player of the tournament was Harry M. He was outstanding at the back and when in goal, he was immense!
