Tag Rugby Lower Juniors
This week it was the turn of the Year 3 and 4 pupils to take part in the Broxton rugby tournament.
It was a league format and our first game was against Tushingham. We dominated it and Alfie and Will both ran in two tries each in a 4 - 0 win. Our next game was tight. We played Tattenhall and we did several unforced errors. At 0 - 0 and with time running out, Jessica pounced on an interception and scored the winning try.
Malpas were next and we were back to our best. Ethan passed off to Alfie who crossed the white line. He then scored another 2 brilliant solo tries for a 3 - 1 win. Our fourth game was against the Tushingham third team and we played some of our best rugby. Dash scored his first try and Alfie scored another brilliant solo try. Ted scored a try, followed by Ethan and Jessica. Alfie did another one of his amazing solo runs to complete a 6 - 0 rout.
And then we faced Tilston, who are Year 5/6 team lost to. It was a match that lived up to its billing. Both defences were on top, but then Alfie scored another one if his tries we he ran through the whole team. Tilston were quick to reply, but it was Alfie again, on our last tag, who ran clear to score. With time running out, Tilston battled through our defence and made it 2 - 2.
Next up was Shocklach. It was fair to say thaey were not as confident with the rules as we were. We dominated and Alfie scored two early tries, quickly followed by Will. Alfie scored yet again and with the clock running down Jessica broke free and layed it off to Ethan who then scored.
Our final match was against Tushingham B. We were now unstoppable! Team captain, Freya (Crusher) ran in for her debut try. Alfie added another 2 tries, as did Jess and Ethan also had time to score once again. 7 - 0 was a fine way to finish.
With 6 wins and 1 draw we crossed our fingers, hoping we would retain the trophy from last year. Tillston were crowned Champions - again. It went to amount of tries scored and they scored just 1 more try than us!
Runners Up this time, but undefeated. A brilliant achievement and all our players can be very proud of how well they did. Everyone played their part, but player of the tournament had to be Alfie - he scored an incredible 11 tries in total.
