Rugby Tournament

On Thursday, we took two teams to the Heber Rugby tournament for Year 5 and 6 pupils. After being the champions last year, we were hoping to defend the title.

The first match saw both Farndon teams play each other. It was a tight and competitive game, but George broke through the lines to the pass off to Henry who scored the first try. Henry then scored again for a 2 - 0 win. Our Gold team then played Malpas. We took the lead with a wonderful solo try from Jonah. However, it was soon 1 -1. Late in the game, Jonah ran through again and a fine pass to Thomas led to a second try and a 2 -1 win. Victory over Tattenhall would secure a place in the semi finals, but they were caught cold at the start and Tattenhall took advantage, scoring 4 tries. But their heads didn't drop and they scored two tries of their own in a 4 - 2 loss.

After their first win, the Reds took on Tattenhall. We controlled the game from start to finish. Henry scored early with a magnificent run and soon followed this with a second try. Harley grabbed a try late on for a 3 - 0 win. Victory over Malpas would mean qualification to the final stages. It was another emphatic win. Henry continued his scoring streak and Harley and George also crossed the white line in a 3 - 0 win. It was on to the semi-finals where Bickerton were the opponents.

The semi-final was tense. We domninated with balll in hand, but Bickerton's defence was to be applauded. We lost count of the amount of last ditch tackles on their try line. However, at 0 - 0, Bickerton looked certain to score until George did an amazing diving tackle to get the tag! Extra time did not get any easier. For what seemed like an eternity, the game was still in dead lock - but then up stepped Henry. He dived over the line in the corner to set up a final against Tilston - who we narrowly beat in extra time last year!

It's fair to say, we had some tired legs for the final and some errors crept into our game. Tilston capitalised and scored to make it 1 -0. Each team traded blows with some great defence shown. Both teams knew that the next try would be crucial - and it was Tilston who scored. With time running out, Polly did an amazing run on the wing to score, but the game ended in a 2 - 1 loss.

Runners Up this time. Both teams played some great rugby and can be very proud of their performance. Player of the Tournament for the Gold team was William - birlliant attitude, gave his all and his tackling was immense! Player of the Tournament for the Reds has to be Henry - it's hard to look beyond his contribution with 6 tries in total; an incredible performance.
