Infants Football Tournament
On Thursday, we took two teams to a new football tournament hosted by Chester SSP - school's sports partnership. Our Year 1 team, led by Miss Brown, and the Year 2 team, coached by Mr Walker, competed against lots of other schools across the West Cheshire and Chester borough.
The Year 2 were drawn in a tough group. The first match was Dee Point. Thomas was brilliant in goal and Lucy had a brilliant debut in defence. Eric scored in the last seconds for a 1 - 0 win. St Martins were next and they scored early, but we had chances. Ottie was confident bringing the ball out from attack and Max made some crucial saves. As the whistle went, Ted scored a screamer to make it a 1 -1 draw. They then played St Werburghs who played well and they raced into a 2 - 0, and sadly that is how it finished. In our final game, we played league leaders Tarvin. They were on top, but Ted managed to score again, but we lost 2 - 0. It was a great day and a brilliant experience for the children. They can be very proud of how well they did.
Our Year 1 team played on smaller pitches and smaller goals. They were in a league with 9 other schools. We started slow and lost to Eccleston 1 - 0. However, it proved to be their only blip. They either won or drew all of their other games. Seb was incredible in goal and Harry PK scored an impressive 3 goals. But it was a real team effort. It was a tense wait to find out who won and when it was announced the children jumped for joy. Our Year 1s won the league. They each had a lovely medal and were given a lovely shiny trophy. Not only that, but they will now get to represent Chester in a national tournament!
A big well done to all the children and Miss Brown.
