Girls Football Tournament
On Wednesday, we took a very excited U11s girls football team to compete in their first tournament. They proudly wore the brand new football kit for the first time and they all looked just like a proper Premier League football player.
Our first match was against Tarvin. We were a little quiet at first and took a little while to get going. However, once we found our stride, we started to dominate. Violet, Paige and Polly were dominating midfield and Tarvin couldn't get out of their own half. With just seconds left, Jessica raced past 3 Tarvin players and struck a lovely shot into the top right corner for a 1 - 0 win.
Next up, it was Willaston and they had a good side, but the Farndon girls were in high spirits after their first win and came out firing on all cyclinders! Paige was clean through on goal, but their keeper made a fine safe. Then, Jessica got the ball and raced down the left. Giving the keeper no time to set herself, she hit a powerful drive into the bottom left corner; the keeper had no chance. From that point on it was all Farndon. Paige was tearing through the midfield and as she took it past the last defender she was brought down. Her free kick was well saved, but there was one final chance for Paige to score, but it rattled the cross bar! Another 1 - 0 win.
In our final group game, we knew we had already won the group, so the girls switched off a little. Christleton punished us and won 3 - 0. However, top of the group meant we made the semi-final. We faced Our Ladys from Ellesmere Port. They were a very strong team, but we held our own. There left midfielder travelled with the ball into our half and our players stood off her, allowing her time to shoot. It squeezed past Eloise in goal and we were behind. The game settled down after that and Farndon battled for the ball. Sienna hit a wonderful long range shot that was saved well, but time was against us. A 1 - 0 defeat.
But a third place finish was a wonderful achievement for this new team and the girls can be very proud of themselves. Player of the tournament was Captain Fantastic Paige who controlled our midfield and led by example. Well done everyone.
