Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 7th March

Date: 13th Mar 2016 @ 8:24pm

Well this week was so busy it needed the weekend to fit it all in!

I had enjoyable time in the Year 5 and 6 classrooms this week. We are implementing the new Computing curriculum in school and using Scratch for our coding lessons. To link into their topic of Zogg, we attempted to make our very own Space Invaders game; it was a game I remember getting for Christmas as a little boy and here we were now making it in school! It is very tricky coding, but the children did a fantastic job. We managed to get our space rockets moving from side to side and firing - next week we will add the aliens!

The Early Years children had a very exciting week. As part of their work on dinosaurs, the class were looking after some very precious dinosaur eggs. One morning, one of the eggs had cracked open and their were tiny dinosaur foot prints all over the floor. This triggered huge excitiement in the class but they were desperate to find the missing dinosaur that was loose within the school. The children were busy writing wanted posters which they posted all around the school. It certainly inspired all the children to write.

The weekend was certainly a busy one. I enjoyed watching some of our children take part in the Speech and Drama festival at the Kings school. Mrs Wakefield and Mrs Higley did a fantastic job getting the children ready for their performance. All of our participants had to learn one poem and perform it to the judges and a room full of people. The Year 5 pupils did a great job; India managed to finsih second. The Year 6 pupils did equally well with Grace and Halle finishing in the top 3. I was so proud of all our children; it is not easy to perform a poem under pressure and they were all word perfect!

And on Sunday the basketball team took part in the Hoops for Health tournament on the Chester Phoenix court. I took my two boys and they had a great time supporting the team. After 2 wins and a defeat, it meant they qualified for the final that took place at half time during the Phoenix match. It was an amazing experience to play in front of such a large crowd (complete with a running commentary). On this occasion we lost to Overleigh, but it was certainly something the team wont forget for a long time! My eldest was so inspired he wrote his own match report when he got home.
