Year 4 Football Tournament Win

Lesson: Physical education

Class: Year 4 Wrens Year: 2024 - 2025

Our Year 4 football team were hoping to go one step further than our Year 5 and 6 football team in the Cheshire West Tournament on the King George pitches in Blacon and make it all the way to the final. But they had to get out of their group first.

Our first match was against Hoole. We started slowly and conceded a sloppy goal. We dominated and had shot after shot after shot, and time was running out. Jermiah swung in a corner and Henry applied the finish to make it 1 - 1. We played St Martins next and we began to find our thythm. Jonah and Nathan scored to put us into a comfortable lead and then Niall scored a banger. From distance, he struck a shot which dipped and went in over the keeper. A 3 - 0 win.

Waverton was the final group game. Kuba, our goalkeeper, was the star of the show. He was called upon to make save after save. Farndon had their chances, but their keeper was also in fine form. Waverton managed to squeeze one in at the near post and it led to a 1 - 0 defeat.

Thankfully, it was enough to qualify for the semi final. We played Willaston and the earlier defeat spurred our team into action. Jermiah got the ball deep in his own half and dribbled around the entire team to score. We raced to a 3 - 0 lead with Jermiah scoring a hat-trick. There was still time for Teddy and Nathan to score and it was a confidence boosting 5 - 1 victory.

And so to the final - and it was Waverton - again! But this time we were ready for them. Jonah played a lovely ball through for Jermiah to score. With the game still in the balance, Kuba made a string of fine saves. Jonah then made the game safe scoring from both the left flank and then the right. A 3 - 0 emphatic win.

Tournament winners means we now represent West Cheshire in the regional finals. Win that, and we may be going all the way to Wembley!

Player of the tournament: There was once again so many worthy candidates, but this time it goes to our goalkeeper Kuba. In several games he produced some wonderful saves that kept us in it. A heroic display from Year 4 Farndon's number 1!
