Headteacher blog Week beginning 5th Oct
Date: 10th Oct 2015 @ 10:12am
This week was certainly an interesting week. Obviously, it was disappointing that we were forced to close the school on Tuesday due to know running water. It was of course a very difficult decision, but with no running water we can not open as we can't prepare the school meals and would have no flushing toilets or drinking water. Dee Valley water could not give any firm information as to when the water would be back on. I know how disruptive closing the school can be and I must thank all the parents for being so incredibly understanding and suppotive with the situation.
It was back to normal on Wednesday and the Year 3 and 4 pupils enjoyed learning about maps and the local village in a Geography morning. They had the chance to work on the I-Pads, using mapzone to learn about world maps and the UK. Using OS maps, they looked at symbols and 4 figure grid references using local maps of Cheshire, Wirral and Wrexham. There was time for a walk to the river to sketch the landscape, identifying physical and human features of the river. Then, the children looked at Farndon, identifying amenities and the value of them eg butchers, newsagents etc. The day ended with the Globe challenge - drawing the world on a balloon! Try it at home. A big thank you to the parents for the support. I was particularly pleased when people in the village saw the children around the village and commented to me on their wonderful behaviour and relationships with the staff. Well done Year 3 and 4.
Thursday was another sporting event for Mr Bond. He takes his Cross Country very seriously and picked a huge team this year, giving as many pupils as possible a chance to participate and represent the school. They did extremely well winning all the Year group races - apart from the Year 5 and 6 girls who also did so well, finishing third. Overall, another team gold medal. The Olympics in Rio may well have come to soon for our athletes, but who knows in the future...
On Friday, the Infants had the chance to dress up as their favourite animals. They had an exciting day, taking part in activities linked to their topic. I look forward to seeing lots of pictures. As I write my blogs, it is always so pleasing to see the range of enhancement opportunities the teachers plan for their topics that the children can enjoy and engage in.
Nex week, I look forward to seeing a new set of parents for Parents'Evening in Early Years. Can I also remind parents to complete a Parent View questionnaire for OFSTED. It can be acessed off the Parent tab on the website. We welcome your views on our school and use for future school improvement planning.
