Year 4 Super 8s

Having won all their league matches, it meant our Year 4 football team qualified for the Super 8 finals. This is basically the 8 best school football teams in Cheshire West. Hopes were high as we had a strong team.

Our first match was against Upton Heath. We started well and were dominating possession. Nathan gave us an early lead after a lovely through ball from Jermiah. However, we then let in a sloppy goal when our defenidng of a corner could have been better. We then took the lead, and looked set to win the first game, but they scored again to make it 2 - 2.

Our second match was against Eccleston and we played our best football in this match. We totally dominated possession and Jermiah opened the scoring. Blake did a lovely run and cut in, managing to squeeze his shot in at the near post. Our last match was perhaps our toughest opponents - Dee Point. They took an early lead with a very scrappy goal. I twas a long ball and the keeper went to clear, but it hit the Dee Point player and ended up dribbling across the line. We had a chance after chance, but their keeper was in inspired form! However, the pressure eventually told and Jonah swung in a lovely corner that was only half cleared and Jonah crashed it into the roof of the net. We couldn't find a winner and so ended the group stage in second.

The semi-final was a tough match against Huntingdon - who won all their group games. However, we totally dominated. Henry raced clean through and his powerful shot was well saved. They then had a chance, whcih crashed against the post. We had a free kick in their half and Jonah opted to take it. He swung it in and it beat the keeper, but re-bounded off the crossbar. With time running out, Teddy picked up a loose ball in midfield and hit a sweet strike only for the keeper to do a full stretch save and tip it onto the bar. Jonah hit the follow up which was again saved and his final shot went inches wide. Then - the sucker punch. With the referee putting the whistle to his lips, HUntingdon launched a long ball up which span and deceived out back two with the bounce. Their striker raced onto it and scored - with the last kick of the game!

But it was not over. 3rd place was still there to win. We met Tarvin and the two side were well matched. Niall burst through down the right and lashed a shot into the bottom left. We were dominant from this point, but Tarvin then countered. They attacked down the right and hit a shot that squeezed past Kuba. He saved it, but it squirmed under his body to then go in. Penalties loomed, but Henry had other ideas. The ball bounced kindly on the edge of the box and he cracked his shot into the top left corner. The whistle couldn't come soon enough.

A third place finish and each player won a lovely bronze medal. They can be so proud of their season. Luck wasn't on their side today and it was the tournament for the keeps this year! On Friday with the Year 5 and 6 go one step better? No one player earned player of the tournament - it was a team effort and they can all be very proud of being the 3rd place team this year in Cheshire West.
