Gladiator Visit
On Friday, we had a special guest, organised by our PTA - a real life Gladiator! Not just Mr Walker and Mr Bond dressed up as one!
Steel - otherwise known as Zack George - came to the school to speak to all of the children about his journey from a 10 year old boy, who wasn't particularly in great shape, to becoming the fittest man in the UK! He delivered his inspirational assembly to all our pupils, showing how with hard work and perseverance you can achieve your dreams. Even as young as ten years old, he dreamed of being a Gladiator and he shared his journey on how he achieved it.
The children learned about the importance of a healthy lifestyle - eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fruit, vegetables and protein for most of your meals. But it is okay to then have occasional treats like a pizza - Steel's favourite food! He also made clear the importance of drinking lots of water each day and to exercise to work your muscles and get your heart pumping.
Finally, he talked about mental health. In his assemblies, he talked about having a growth mindset - life is a choice and you can choose to pursue a dream or give up whenever you fail or it gets too hard. He also said about how he gets nervous and anxious when he is competing as a Gladiator and he taught the children several calming breathing techniques that can be used to remain calm and relaxed.
He finished his assemblies by walking on his hands. He challenged Mr Walker (Gladiator Lightweight) and Mr Bond (Gladiator Alluminium) to try and do the same. Having already lost a thumbs war battle, they decided to get their understudy to do it for them - Jack Waters!
I think it is fair to say there was a real buzz in school as he visited each class to sign pictures and answer questions. He also shared the information on his app - Zactiv. This is a program and app designed to inspire children through physical activity and healthy mindsets. Zactiv includes interactive PE and School Day components, a library of videos, and a free Family App with workouts for busy families.
