Cross Country
Saturday was the first race in the West Cheshire Athletics Cross Country series. The children race around the field at the back of the Brio Leisure Centre.
We took a huge this time with runners in every race from Year 3 to Year 6.
Several children made their debuts. Poppy (Yr3) was incredible and was in touching distance of bronze and Ruby came home in the iop ten. Felix (Yr3) ran well, but didn't get the best of starts. He made up so many places and finished well within the top ten with Thomas (Yr3) close behind. Jack (Yr3) ran a strong race and I think there is more to come. Casey (Yr4) ran a strong second lap to finish top six and Will and Finlay weren't far behind. - Finlay finished incredibly strongly. Medal winner last year, Austin, bravely battled through to finish, even though he wasn't feeling well - a truly heroic run. Annie had a good run to make the top ten but Francesca got the dreaded stitch.
In Year 5, Jessica was in the hunt for a medal, but finished fifth and Eva looked to have achieved her highest ever finish. Dash was looking to build on his gold winning performance last year. It was a sprint to the line, but he was pushed into fourth place. And Dexter ran strongly, particularly his second lap! All our hopes rested on Year 6 for a medal. Evelyn was desperate for her first medal and as awlays ran beautifully only to finish fourth - the medal was in reach and we are sure she will get one this season. Blake, team captain, was in fine form. An early fall affected his race strategy, but he recovered well. It was another fourth place finish for the team.
It was a fantastic effort from the whole team. Fingers crossed we can turn some of those top ten finishes into medals in the next race in November.
