Year 3 Robins 2019-2020

Miss Cooper

Welcome to Year 3!

Our exciting new topic this term is ‘Castles and Monarchs’! We will be exploring what it would have been like to live in a Castle, who would have lived in them, the reason why they were built and much more. We will also be going on an interesting trip to learn more about local Castles. If your child has any interesting artifacts or resources linked to our topic, please feel free to being them in to share with us.

P.E

Year 3 children will have PE on a Thursday and a Friday. Please ensure that your child has a full P.E. kit in school at all times. As the weather can be changeable at this time of year, it may be advisable to also include some jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt.

Spellings

New spellings will be taught on a Monday, where a 'Look, Cover, Write, Check' sheet will be given out for children to practice these new spellings at home. During the rest of the week, children will be given a variety of activities based around these spellings to help embed the new pattern or rule. Instead of a weekly spelling test, children will be assessed on the spellings they have learnt so far at the end of each half-term, with this including 3-4 words from each week.

Homework

Homework will be given out on a Friday and will be expected in on the following Wednesday. In addition to this, children will be expected to read regularly at home. Additional Maths is available on ‘Mymaths’ where children can practice previously taught topics. Children have also been given a Times Table Rockstars login that will allow them to practice their timestables, which we encourage children to play on regularly.

I look forward to a fantastic year togther.
