Year 5 Owls 2018 - 2019

Miss Cooper

Welcome to Year 5!

Class Information

Our exciting new topic this term is ‘Endangered’, with a particular focus on the Rainforest and the endangered animals which are found there. We will be exploring where in the world Rainforests are located and the impact deforestation has on endangered animals. If you have any exciting resources or artefacts related to our topic, please let me know.

Year 5 will have PE on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit in school at all times, which could include jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt, since the weather can be unpredictable at this time of year.

New spellings will be taught on a Monday, where a 'Look, Cover, Write, Check' sheet will be given out for children to practice these new spellings at home. During the rest of the week, children will be given a variety of activities based around these spellings to help embed the new pattern or rule. Instead of a weekly spelling test, children will be assessed on the spellings they have learnt so far at the end of each half-term, with this including 3-4 words from each week.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and will be expected in on the following Thursday. In addition to this, children will be expected to read regularly at home. Additional Maths is available on ‘Mymaths’ where children can practice previously taught topics. Children are also expected to be playing Times Table Rockstars regularly to help improve their times table knowledge.

I look forward to another fantastic term together.
