Year 6 Kestrels 2019-2020

Mrs Wakefield

Mrs McCarthy

Welcome to Year 6

The children will have PE on a Tuesday and a Friday. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school at all times as if the weather is bad, they may have PE on an alternative day.

Mrs McCarthy will teach the new spelling focus on a Monday where she will also give out LCWAC sheets for the children to reinforce their learning at home. Each day there after, the children will be given a variety of spelling activities that will help embed the pattern or rule. At the end of a half term, the children will have a brief assessment of the spelling rules looked at so far and any gaps in knowledge will be addressed.

In addition to weekly spellings, Mrs McCarthy will give out either grammar or reading homework on Mondays. This will be due in by the following Monday.

Mrs Wakefield will give maths homework on Fridays to be returned by the following Thursday.

PLEASE NOTE: much of the homework this year will take the form of practice papers in readiness for end of year SATS.

As you are probably aware, the children will be sitting their end of primary school SATs tests in May. We will be holding an information evening later on in the term. Watch this space for details..

We ask that parents do not access online past papers to administer to your child at home - we will be using all of them in school to aid our own in house assessment and check for gaps in learning. If the children have already seen them, it causes us problems!

In the meantime, please feel free to access the information leaflet in the 'Files to Download' section below.

We look forward to the year ahead...

Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Wakefield
