Our topic in the Spring Term is A Street Through Time

In this topic our Geographical studies will centre around where we live - the village of Farndon. We will look at the main high street through time and use maps, photographs and other sources of information to see how the village has changed over time. We will look at the village as it is now and through geographical enquiry and field study we will look at the physical and human geography of our local area. The children will conduct surveys of the local area such as litter and noise pollution and how we could further imporve our local area. We will be liasing with our Parish Council who will be sharing an exciting new projects to develop the village further. This will incude twinning with a French town and a new cinema complex. This will be debated.

As part of our cultural link with a French town, the children will learn how to desrcibe the place where they live.

As part of our studies of the Farndon High street through time, we will look at what it possibly looked like during the time of the Anglo Saxons. Historical records show that an Anglo Saxon king was killed on the bridge crossing the River Dee when he was trying to surpress the welsh! So for our Historical enquiries, we will ask the question - what was Farndon's main high street like as the Anglo Saxon king marched through our village? Who were the Anglo Saxons and where did they come from? We will learn about the different kingdoms, their daily life, religion and their arts.

In our studies as to what the village used to be like, we will determine why our school badge is a strawberry. It used to be filled with strawberry fields before the war. So the children will design and make their own strawberry tartlet.

For our work in Computing we will be coding to create different sequences and we will also create our own branching databases. In science, we will study the Human digestive system and our teeth.
