Year 2 Football Team

Lesson: Physical education

Class: Year 2 Hedgehogs Year: 2018 - 2019

Our Year 2 Football took part in the Everton Mini Kickers Tournament.

Sadly, we lost one of our players - Oliver - due to illness, but the team were still determined to give it their all and compete with some of the best teams across Cheshire West.

Their first match was against Lache. It was such a tight game with Fraser making one great save in goal. Zach ran in on goal, but the keeper dived at his feet. We started with a clean sheet and a 0 - 0 draw. Our second match was against Grosvenor School. We dominated and with some tough tackling from Ayse at the back we kept things tight. Out of nowhere, Ralph scored a cracker, looping it over the keeper. With just minutes to go, they broke through and scored to make it 1 - 1 totally against the run of play.

Our third match was against a tough J H Godwin side. We were on the back foot for most of it, but Oliver was great in goal, with several good saves and clearances. Finn played brilliantly, and was a constant threat down the right, but it ended 0 - 0. As one other school didn't turn up, we had to play Lache again. It was a winner takes all match; a win and the semi-final awaited the team.

Both teams battled. Zac raced clear and had a one on one with the keeper but it was saved. Then, the sucker punch. A Lache player struck a sweet shot into the bottom corner to score. A 1 - 0 defeat and we were out.

We can be proud of how we played and with Oliver who knows how far we could have gone. But we can go to the Broxton tournament with confidence. Man of the Match was Finn - some terrific last ditch takles and great surges forward.
