Year 2 Aliens in Space

Our class text this half term is ‘Toys in Space’ by Mini Grey. This wonderful book has already captured the imagination of the children and they are so excited to find out what is going to happen to the toys.

The children had a wonderful time at the school pond area trying to find the hidden toys from the story. After they found each toy they wrote on their whiteboards a description of where it was hiding and tried to use different sentence openers as well as noun phrases. 

This week the children discovered the identity of the alien inside the spaceship. The toys in the story named it ‘Hoctopize’. As a class we tried to think of reasons why Hoctopize was crying. Was he ill or perhaps he was lonely? 

We decided to get creative and all the children made their very own Hoctopize. Here are a few pictures showing how we made them and our finished creations.
