World Book Day

Lesson: Literacy

On Thursday was World Book Day and we celebrated in style this year!

Mrs Wakefield helped to organise an exciting day for the children. It began with an assembly to launch the day and the children all sat around the large world floor map. We quickly found all the continents and on each continent there were books related to those cultures. Each year group had a different continent and book to study thie day and had to walk onto the map and collect their books.

During the assembly, our speech and drama childen got the chance to perform their poems to the school. Henry, Emma and Grace were fantastic! I can't wait to see them perform in the competition.

And of course there were the potatoes! The children were set the challenge to decorate a potato to look like a book character. There were so many fabulous entries and judging was incredibly difficult. We judged them against 2 different categories: most like the character and most imaginative.

We hope the days events will inspire our children to love and enjoy reading. Judging by how much they enjoyed the day, we are sure it will. Keep reading everyone!
