Science Week

Lesson: Science

Class: Ladybirds Year: 2015 - 2016

This week is our curriclum focus on science. We come off our usual timetable and focus on all things science. Mrs Higley has organised lots of fun and exciting hands on activities to get people excited abd talking about science.

Check out this gallery page each day to keep up to date with what the children are learning in their science.

Monday was structures afternoon. Each class has a challenge and as a group, they had to build a structure out of newspaper and tape. We had marble runs, bridges and tables and chairs for Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

Tuesday was another busy science day! Mr Eddleston came in to talk to the Year 5 and 6 pupils. It was a fascinating talk on chemistry that focused on salt. They even got ot make their own home made batteries with chlorine. Mrs Wardle talked to the Early Years children on health and safety and hygiene. The children learnt how to keep healthy and free of bugs. We also had Techniquest into school and they did a workshop with all the pupils. If focused on forces and the highlight had to be the Teachers having to sit on a bed of 300 nails!!!

On Wednesday, the children were treated to Zoo Lab. All the children got to handle a variety of animals such as snakes and cockroaches - one even gave birth in the middle of the talk! Mrs Parry also came in to give a talk to the Reception children.

Our final day saw the Year 2 pupils take on the raft challenge. They were given some foil and other basic materials and tried to carry as many cubes as possible. There were some very interesting designs. Throughout the day was the paper plane challenge. Each of the Year group winners had a "fly off" at the end of the day. Well done to Leo in Year 2 for his winning design.
