Road Safety Assembly

Lesson: PSHE and citizenship

On Monday, our children had an assembly with someone from the Road Safety team from the Local Authority. She was assisted in the assembly with our Road Safety Officers Glenn and Emma in Year 6.

The first important message was the Green Cross Code. The children were taught how to keep themselves safe when walking by roads or on their bikes and scooters. The children now know to Stop - Look - Listen - Think. We also reminded the children that when on their scooters they must also be aware of pedestrians using the pavements.

Then, we looked at when they come into schools in cars with their parents and how they in parking safely and sensibly. The children were asked to remember it as DIPZY!

D Double yellow lines mean don't park there.

I In entrances - don't park there or block their access.

P Pavements - when parking think of pedestrians using the pavements.

Z Zebra crossing - don't park on them or near to.

Y Yellow zig zag lines; these are outside the front of school entrances and cars should not park on them.

Children will be coming home with information from the local authority on keeping safe on the roads and parking at the front of school. The school council have also met and created a school charter which we will share with parents. Finally, the children are also desgining a banner for at the front of school which the Parish Council are kindly donating.
