Pirate Day Ooh - Aaarrggghh

Lesson: History

Class: Year 1 Foxes Year: 2014 - 2015

In the Infants on Friday, they had a wonderul day acting as pirates.  At the start of the day, all of the children had to read and sign the pirate code that they had created the previous day. They also rehearsed the pirate language and actions that they had to learn for homework

The children then rotated around the following activities to see if they were able to become an honorary pirate.

1. Treasure hunt -  the children followed clues around the school and collected letters. They then had to unscramble the letters to give the location of the hidden treasure.

2. Made treasure maps for their topic books

3. Completed 4 pirate duties and commented on feelings after doing each of them: these included scrubbing the decks, climbing the rigging, bailing water from the ship and passing cannon balls ( fortunately though not actually firing any of them ).

4. Make tack biscuits and taste grog!

Thankfully, the day didn't end with making Mr Walker walk the plank!  All the trainee pirates passed and they received their certificate.

The teachers wish to thank all the parents for their efforts with the costumes and preparing the children for the day.
