French Day

Lesson: Languages

As the teaching of modern foreign languages has been a recent focus of the school, we decided to focus on French for the European Day of Languages. The children spent the day immersing themselves in the language and the culture.

In Early Years, they were learning how to count in French and got the chance to build the Eiffel Tower with blocks. Year 1 became chefs for the day and made a delicious duck and sausage casoulet. Year 2 made their very own french bread; I can honestly say it tasted amazing! Apparently, it was a Paul Hollywood recipe.

In Year 3, they got to learn about the days of the week and months. Year 4 made some amazing Eiffel towers from art straws and created a booklet about themselves all in French. Year 5 and 6 sampled some French cheeses (there was some seriously strange face pulling from some) and the Year 5's performed some French songs, adding their own accompaniments.

It was a fantastic day and judging by the pictures the children had a wonderful time.
