Phonic Screening

The following websites also have some great games to practise phonic skills for reading

http://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/  Some free phonics games including real and alien words

http://www.ictgames.com/  The Literacy section has lots of phonic games

http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/  Examples of words for the different phases of phonic knowledge

Ideas for games:

  • Make their own alien words using the sounds they have covered.
  • Snap using flash cards or words they have thought of.
  • Post-its hidden around the room or garden, they run to find the word.
  •  How many words can you think of with a particular sound.
  •  Flash cards on the floor the children say them before jumping over them.
  •  Splat, write words on a piece of paper, children have to splat the word      (with their hand or fly swat) when you say it.
