Year 3 Hockey

Well with the Year 4 pupils off on their residential, it meant our Deeside Ramblers hockey team was an all Year 3 affair. It meant that they had some tough games with some older Year 4 teams, but they gave it a really good go.

In their first game against Bunbury (B) they were a little quiet at first but defended well - Thomas was an absolute rock! A last minute goal that bobbled across the line meant a 1 - 0 loss. Next up was Tarporley and now they were more into the swing of things and were fired up. We dominated and Jamie had a few chances but then came the sucker punch. Just before the final whistle they broke and scored with their only shot of the game!

Game 3 was against Bunbury (A) and we were now playing much better. A good performance but another last minute winner. Luck was clearly not on our side. Then we played Tattenhall. Sadly, we gifted them a goal at the start, and went on to dominate but just couldn't get that goal to draw level. 4 defeats but the performances were good. Game 5 and history repeated itself once again. A late goal from Waverton (B) meant another 1 - 0 loss.

After a break, we played Mickle Trafford and it proved to be our best game. Rhys J broke free and smashed it into the goal only for it to be wrongly ruled out. It was a real shame as it ended 0 - 0 and game we perhaps should have won. Kelsall were next who were a strong team. We defended for our lives, with Rhys SS and Freya making some vital interventions and it ended 0 - 0 and another creditable draw.

The team were then running on empty and a 2 - 0 defeat to Tarvin was followed by a heavy 4 - 0 defeat to the eventual winners Waverton (A).

The team can be very proud of how they played. They were a young team and showed no fear drawing two games and with a little more luck could have won others. However, the future appears bright and watch this space next year. I am expecting big things from then when they are Year 4s.
