Year 1 and 2 Football

On Thursday, our Year 2 football team competed with other local schools at the Heber in a football tournament. After such a good performance in the Mini Kickers tournament, and the return of Oliver W, hopes were high.

Our first match was against Tushingham. It was a slow start, but then we moved through the gears. Oliver scored two and Finaly 1 to make it a 3 - 0 victory. Our second game was agianst a very strong Malpas team. They had one very dangerous player. We raced into a two goal lead with goals from Oliver and Finley. They got one back and so it got quite tense, but ended in a 2 -1 win.

Next up was Tilston. We started really brightly and pressed high up the pitch. Oliver scored twice and Ralph one. Then, there was an own goal, making it a 4 - 1 win. 3 wins and it was looking good. Our fourth game was against Tattenhall. Lucia was doing a great job in goal and any break aways were being snapped up by Evelyn. It was our best performance and it finished 5 - 0 with 2 goals from Fraser and Oliver and a goal from Finley.

Bickerton looked strong but our confidence was high. We scored early and it ended with a 4 - 0 victory. Zach, Oliver and Ralph were all on the score sheet. Our final game was against Shocklach. There were some tired legs out there, but Ralph put us ahead. We then had to dig in and Evelyn was on form, letting no one through. Then, we were awarded a penalty. Ayse confidently stepped up and smashed it in the top bin! A 2 - 0 win.

Having won all our games, we regained the trophy and were the Year 2 Football Winners.

It is far too difficult to pick out a player of the tournament. It was a team performance from front to back. Lucia kept several clean sheets in goal, Evelyn was strong in defence or on the wing, Ayse took her penalty well and the boys all chipped in with goals. Their attitude was fantastic as was their performance and myself and Miss Brown could not have been prouder!
