Rugby Tournament

Well it is rugby season and this time there were two tournaments - an all girls team and a mixed team.

The girls, managed by Mr Bond, got off to a great start against Shocklach - Mimi clearly had been taking tips off her brother and scored both tries. Next up was Tushingham and Mimi was at it again with two more tries. Sophia added a third to make it a 3 - 1 win. Against Tilston A team, Mimi and Sophia scored more tries and Anna chipped in for a 4 - 0 win. The final match was Tilston B and it was 3 - 0. Once again Sophia and Mimi scoring the tries and Arabella got one. A fine performance and the trophy was won. Mimi was crowned player of the tournament.

The mixed team had the pressure of trying to retain the trophy, having won for the last two years. They started against a tough Malpas team but we came out of the blocks flying. The tries kept coming and we had an 8 - 1 victory with Ben (2), Harry (2), Josh, George, Jachym and James getting on the score sheet. Next up was Tattenahall and the good form continued. Tries from James (2), Jachym (2), George and Ben contributed to a 6 - 0 win. Our final group game was against Tushingham, who we played in the final last year. We were put under pressure and the game was littered with handling errors. We edged it 3 - 1 with tries from Ben (2) and Jachym.

Clutton awaited in the semi-finals. It was here the team found their form and executed the game plan to good effect. It was a demolition, finishing 8 - 0. James (2), Harry (2), Jachym, Ben, George and Sam all managing to score a try.

It was Bickerton in the final and it was a tense affair. Nerves got the better of some of the players with some basic handling errors and knock ons. James scored a great try to give us the lead. But it didn't last long with Bickerton racing over the line. With just seconds left, Harry was switched to more central. Ben raced through the line, was tackled and layed off a sweet pass to Harry who finished a lovely move to score the winning try. The trophy was retained.

The whole team played incredibly well. Scarlett and Lexi were immense in defence, snatching those tags and the boys gained those vital yards and got the ball over the line. There were some real stand out performances but Ben - or as he is known - Mr Snake Hips, edged it for player of the tournament.
