Rugby Champions

Following on from our success in the cross country, our upper junior rugby team were hoping to keep the winning streak going.

We were in a tough group and started well with a 2 - 0 win against Tattenhall. Dan, our captain, scored two fine tries. Next up was Clutton. They were very well organised and we made a few handling errors to allow them to take the lead; but tries from Travis and Dan brought us level.

We had now found our flow and we ran in 4 tries against Tushingham without conceding - two more from Travis, and a try each for Zac and Henry. Confidence was now high in the team and we raced to a 2 - 0 win - Dan once again scoring both tries.

We topped the group and met Shocklach in the semi final. It was a professional performance. Zoe and Amelia were fantastic getting the tags and we kept them out for most of the game. Jonnie was immense, making fantastic yard gains with his incisive runs. Caleb capped off a fine tournament with a try that he deserved and Dan scored another two tries in a 3 - 1 victory.

Clutton awaited us in the final. It was a tight affair for most of the match with no tries scored. Bobbie was immense and never missed a tackle and Henry's running with ball in hand was exceptional.Clutton pounced on an interception and raced through to score a try. With minutes left, defeat looked inevitable. But the children had other ideas! Travis finished off a great move to draw us level - Elvis himself would have been proud of those hip swings. Then, more fantastic defending got us the ball in hand. On our last tackle, Henry saw Dan on the blind side and did a glorious off load - Dan raced through to the try line, placing the ball down as the hooter sounded for the end of the game. Was it a try? Anxious seconds seemed like hours and the ref blew his whistle to confirm the try - Champions!

It is incredibly hard to choose a player of the tournament. It was a real team effort. Amazing defending with only 3 tries conceded all tournament! However, one player excelled throughout. Even with a nasty graze on his arm, he still gave110% in each match he played. With 8 tries and a true captain's performance Dan was our player of the tournament.
