Maths Parent Talk

On Tuesday evening, our school held its second parent talk on the new maths curriculum; the focus this time on Key Stage 2 and multiplication and division.

We invited in Sarah Skelley from the First 4 Maths team to talk through the expectations of the new curriculum and what reasoning looks like in our teaching. We looked at the various formal methods for multiplication and division and the importance of these in the new arithmetic tests.

We also looked at techniques and apparatus that can be used to help support in explaining how to complete certain methods.

We have paper versions on the handouts which are available form the school office. Also, parents can access off the school website the calculations policy for our school and the age related expectations for each year group. Also, we encourage pupils to access My Maths regularly and complete tasks and games - particularly for tables knowledge.
