It's Year 3 and 4 Rugby this time!

Thursday was the turn of our Year 3 and 4 rugby team. The pressure was really on as they were defending champions from last year and the Year 5 and 6 team had won the week before. The children were desperate not to lose the trophy from the cabinet.

We started the tournament slowly. Our first match was agaisnt Malpas and we weren't at our best. Our players were trying too hard and we were a little over excited. Errors crept into their game with dropped passes but our defending held strong. We ground out a 2 - 0 win with Josh and Ben running in a try each.

Next up was Bickerton who the Year 5 and 6 team faced in their final. They had one player who was lightening quick. He raced in for solo try, but we quickly answered with another try from Josh. However, Bickerton ran in another try from their star player and we found ourselves 2 -1 down. We were unlucky not to draw level when Ollie dived over the try line to score but he had lost a tag and it wasn't allowed. We tasted defeat for the first time.

Tattenhall was a pressure game. Lose and we were out! We didn't need to worry! The team began to click and showed what they were really capable of. They played some wonderful rugby. Harry and Josh combined well for Josh to score. Ben also ran in 2 tries and Harry hit top form to score 2 tries of his own.

It was the semi-final and we faced Shocklach. Confidence was high and the team didn't look like losing. Emilia Pyper was an absolute terrior getting the tags - it was outstanding defending and they couldn't get near to our try line. Charles broke into the opposition half and saw Josh out wide. He played the perfect pass and Josh ran in the first try. Josh then sealed the victory with another classy try; a 2 - 0 win.

It was the final and we were up against Tushingham. Our players saved their best rugby for when it really mattered. Ben was unplayable. He supported Harry who handed off to him when tackled and ran in our first try. Ben then scored another solo try and Josh added another to contribute to a 3 - 0 victory.

Champions again. There were several stand out performances and we were blessed with some very talented rugby players. My player of the tournament though has to be Emilia Pyper. Her attitude was fantastic and she was relentless in getting those tags. Without a strong defence you can't win matches! Well done Year 3 and 4 - Rugby Champions 2018
