Girls Football

On Friday, our girls participated in the Christleton football tournament with several other schools in and across Chester. We were a late entry and the team had hardly any time to train together or practise, but what they lacked in preparation, they made up for in talent and positive mentality.

The first match was against Cherry Grove. Their striker was a very good player with a sweet left foot. We dominated the game and Tilly scored to put us 1 - 0 ahead and celebrated with a cart wheel. On the break, Cherry Grove scored with a rather fortunate goal and it finished 1 - 1. Next up was Overleigh St Marys. We were camped in their half for most of the match but we were just not taking our chances. Finally, Mollie broke down the right hand side and calmly slotted in the far corner for a 1 - 0 win.

Malpas was meant to be our next match, but they hadn't arrived so it went down as a 3 - 0 win. We then played Huntingdon who had a very strong team and had won all of their matches. They started well and broke through the middle and scored past Eliza with a scorching drive. But that only seemed to spur our team on. We dominated possession and pressed in their half for the rest of the match. Sadly, their keeper was in fine form and made several saves leading to a 1 - 0 defeat.

But we saved the best until last. Tarvin was our last game in the group and the Farndon girls were in the mood for goals! Allegra hit a fine shot into the corner and followed this up with a true goal poacher's finish. After a scramble in the box, Tilly scored and Farrah polished off a fine performance with a sweet low drive into the bottom corner. a 4 - 0 win meant we finished second in the group.

We even found time for a friendly. We were the victim of some "questionable" decisions from the ref and went a goal down early. However, from that point on it was one way traffic. After several missed chances, our pressure finally told and a handball led to a penalty. Farrah confidently stepped up and hammered it into the top left corner. 1 - 1 it finished.

Having only trained together a handful times, this was an incredible team performance. The girls were fantastic and can be so proud of how they performed.
