Football League Match

We had our first league match against Malpas on Tuesday. The start of the defence of our league crown from last year.

It was a typical first match of the season as both teams were a little "cagey" at first and Farndon were relying on the long ball too often.

When we started to get it on the deck, we began to play it about so much better, with Alex, Daniel, Travis and Cameron combining well. The breakthrough came when Daniel broke through the middle and found Cameron in space on the right hand side. Cameron neatly cut inside the defender and slotted it into the bottom corner.

Just before half time, Farndon cranked up the pressure and began to find more space. The ball went out to the left and Travis let fly with a shot that came off the defender and went into the back of the net. We ended the half 2 - 0 ahead and Henry and Zac had held the defensive line well to keep a clean sheet.

Jonnie came on in the second half to play in defensive. Malpas pressed hard early on and grabbed a goal back. They then began to dominate and so we made a change, with Oliver coming on up front. It had the desired impact. As the keeper played it out, Oliver pounced on a mistake, ran in on goal and finished with confidence.

A 3 -1 lead and confidence was high. But credit to Malpas, they roared back and showed great determination. We relied on Freddie to make a string of good saves. With minutes to go, a long ball was pumped up field that went over the heads of our back line. Their number 8 ghosted in round the back and expertly lobbed Freddie to make it 3 - 2. It was game on.

Spaces were starting to open up now. With time running out,  Oliver was played in. He was crowded out by the two defenders but managed to just play it out to Daniel. He rifled the ball into the bottom corner. 4 -2 it finished and it was a great start to the season. Tarvin are up next.

Man of the match: It was a solid team performance with everyone contributing but Cameron did not put a foot wrong, created chances and got the season started with a well taken goal.
