Final League Match

It was the crucial final league match against Belgrave and because we had dropped points in our last 2 matches it was a must win!

It was a very small pitch so there needed to be a quick change of tactics. The game started with a lot of long ball football which was inevitable due to the pitch being so small. Ten minutes in and the ball broke free in our box. Freddie raced out but they tucked it in the corner to take an early lead.

The team didn't panic. They began playing it on the floor and to feet and we quickly got back in the game with a well taken goal from Cameron. Then, it was the turn of our not so secret weapon - Alex. He had had a few goal kicks and came close and just before half time he hit one so sweetly that it flew into the top corner of the net. 2 -1 at half time.

Our confidence was now up and at the start of the second half we took control. Another wonderful ball in from an Alex goal kick and Dan flicked it on with his head and it flew into the top corner. A corner quickly followed which Dan took and it went in off their defender. 4 -1 and we were cruising.

But Belgrave came back at us and Zac and Alex needed to be at their best to surpress their attacks. A handball gave them a penalty and chance to close the gap. Freddie stepped up with an amazing save to his right. The save was crucial. We then had numerous chances but their keeper was in fine form, stopping great efforts from Oliver and Dan.

A 4 - 1 victory now means we have a nervous wait. It might be enough for the league title if other results go our way. It may well be enough to qualify for the Super 8s tournament. Man of the Match goes to Alex. A tremendous defensive display, an assist and a wonder strike from a goal kick - take a bow son!
