Chester Football World Cup

On a hot Friday afternoon, Farndon football team played in their season finale. The top 40 teams across Chester came together to compete in the Chester World Cup. After a successful season, Farndon went in with high hopes.

Our group was tough with some top sides, including this year's league and cup double winners Upton. We started well; A 1 - 0 win over St Werburghs. Our next game was tough against Cherry Grove. A lovely flowing move was finished off by Jack M and we won 1 - 0. Sadly Dodleston didn't come so that was classed as a win. Our final group game was against Upton who were the favourites. It was the best the team have ever played and they stormed to a 2 - 0 with goals from Archie and Jack. We went through as group winners! 4 wins and no goals conceded.

And so we marched on to the Quarter finals where we met Chester Blue Coats. Another great team goal led to a 1 - 0 win. In the Semi-final, we met Guilden Sutton who had won all their games without conceding a goal. However, so had Farndon. Jack M scored an early goal and we defended for our lives! A great save from Jack CB protected our lead and we made it to the final!

We met Upton once again who had only lost one game all year! But that was agianst us! Sadly, they broke early and scored. They sat back and defended and Farndon gave everything and pushed for an equalizer, but the game ended in a 1 - 0 defeat - the only goal we conceded all tournament!

To finish Runner Up against really big schools across the whole of Chester was a tremendous achievement. All the children were an absolute credit to the school. Their attitude whether they won or lost was fantastic and they were so proud to get their medals. It was a fitting end to a great season. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the team this year and I could not have been prouder of what they have achieved throughout the season.
