Basketball Champions

On Thursday we took our two basketball teams to the Broxton torunament which was held at the Heber High School. After several training sessions early in the morning and even some input from the Chester Phoenix basketball team, our children were more than ready to take on the teams from other schools.

It was a shame that both of our teams were drawn in the same group. Both teams gave it their all, but Team 1 won 3 - 0 with Todd scoring all 3 baskets. Our Team 2 held their own on court 2 and drew 0 - 0 with Malpas B team and although they dominated most of the match against Shocklach, they drew once again 0 - 0. In there other game, they sadly lost 2 - 0 to Bickerton. Fourth in the group meant they just missed out on the semi-finals. Player of tournament from this team had to be James - his bursts down the wing, with a bit more luck, could have led to a lot more baskets.

Team 1 dominated the group. They beat Shocklach 3 - 0 and followed this up with a 2 - 0 victory over Bickerton; Juliette and Harry E with the scores. Another win in their final group match meant they went to the semi-finals undefeated.

It was Tushingham in the semi-finals. It was a tense game as we couldn't take our chances, but late in the game Todd and Harry E contributed to a 2 - 0 win. We met Bickerton in the final. The match was tight, but Harry E won it for us with a terrific shot. The match ended 1 - 0. Champions again with the trophy retained! Player of the tournament had to Harry E; 2 very important baskets in the semi-final and final.

A big thank you to Mr McKie for all his hard work in those early morning sessions to help prepare the children and coach the team throughout the tournament. The trophy gets to stay in our cabinet for another year and sit proudly on the shelf.

In the next few weeks, the team will get to play a tournament on the court where the Phoenix play. Win that, and they get to play at half time in front of the crowd!
