Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 9th January 2017

Date: 15th Jan 2017 @ 2:53pm

After a long relaxing Christmas break, it was great to see all the children back into school and raring to go at the start of this new year.

Our assembly focused of course on new year resolutions. We looked at the Roman god - Janus - who has 2 faces. One to look back and the other forward. The pupils were encouraged to go onto the discussion forum and share their positive experiences of 2016 and what they look to improve and do more of in 2017 that will have a positive effect on themselves, their class and our school community.

Looking forward as a school in 2017, we will be of course focusing on the development of the school building to prepare for any changes of intake. Once the consultation process is over in January, I will then share with the community any future plans we may have. It is a very exciting time for our school and we hope to make the very most out of the proposed development.

Curriculum wise, more members of staff are going to France for a week in Spring and Summer. We hope this will strengthen our links with another school in France and the staff will come back with lots of ideas for effectively  teaching a foreign language in school.

In March, we are going to be assessed to enable us to achieve Level 2 of the Rights Respecting School programme. This is part of our SMSC curriculum. As a school, we promote to our pupils and the wider school community the all the different children rights for all children around the world. Each class will have a charter that will be displayed on their class page and some of our assemblies will address this theme.

This year will be the year when we finally crack handwriting! Before Christmas, all staff had an INSET and observed best practise in the teaching of handwriting. We now have a new scheme of work and books the pupils use will have the new type of line guides. In the near future, we will share this approach through parent workshops.

Later in the year, we will hope to have all the evidence in place to achieve the On-line safety mark and we will also have in place a larger suite of laptops and I-pads, kindly funded by the PTA.

It will certainly be a busy year but lots and lots to look forward to.
