Headteacher Weekly blog Week beginning 29th June

Date: 4th Jul 2015 @ 10:47am

Well the school website feels like a full time job at the moment. I seem to be updating it every single day with so many exciting things happening in and around school.

The week started well with a fantastic performance from all the pupils who have been attending after school drama club. Johnny Gillet, known as Journey Man, had worked hard preparing the children for their show to all the pupils and parents. The children were so confident and everyone was hugely impressed. It is great to see cuuriculum enhancements such as this and we work hard to improve the pupils' speaking and listening skills.

The Year 5s all year have had the chance to learn a string instrument with a music teacher and Mrs Maclean. Each Monday morning the sounds coming out of the hall have got better and better. Their treat for all of their hard work was a trip to the Halle with Mrs Maclean. They had a fabulous time and I have already had parents e mailing me how much they had enjoyed it. As well as part of their music education this was also part of their social and cultural development, experiencing the theatre.

The Year 6 pupils took a break from their Dazzle practise and had the chance to learn about emergency first aid with St John's Ambulance. They learnt about how to treat a variety of injuries and how to bandage certain wounds. They also used the dummies to practise chest presses. This is part of our Health and Safety curriculum for the children.

Sporting wise, I took our footballers to the world cup where they competed against the top 40 teams in Chester; we were Switzerland! We played so well and marched all the way to the final, winning every game and not even conceding a goal! We came up short in the final and lost 1 - 0 to France ( or as you know them Upton ). The chidlren were fantastic and were very proud to receive their medals.

And thankfully we managed to get the Infant sports day done - third time of asking. It was a great afternoon with some terrfic performances. There was a great positive spirit on show and the children clearly enjoyed performing on the track. Well done to Beech after winning with 126 points.

Everything seemed to be happening on Friday - the Year 3 and 4 pupils got to go on their trip to Manchester and see the Ancient Egypt display. I spoke with some of the pupils and they had a fantastic time and clearly have enjoyed their Ancient Egypt topic.

And the week ended with the Summer Fayre. I felt the pressure like Mary Berry when judging the cake and vegetables competition. All my hard work losing weight over the last few months went out of the window as I was forced to eat my way through several slices of delicious cakes! It's a tough job but someone has to do it. The afternoon was a great success, with tradtional fayre rides and games, cream teas, Year 6 enterprise, dancing and of course the crowning of the Rose Queen.
