Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 18th April

Date: 24th Apr 2016 @ 1:02pm

It was so good to see everyone back from the Spring break all safe and sound and ready for the new term.

The week started with a whole school assembly on challenges. Children were invited to the front to take part in various challenges such as balancing a book on their heads, "keepy uppies" with a football, tongue twisters and juggling. Obviously, they all struggled with them as they were very difficult! We talked about how we should not be put off by a challenge and that to succeed and achieve in anything we need to put in the hard work and practise. Then we would grow in confidence and get better and better. We linked this to the work ahead this term and the challenges of SATs and that with hard work and practise we can achieve and be the best we can be.

In Year 2 and Year 6 they have been meeting these challenges head on. Obviously, there has been a focus on maths, reading and writing and lots of qestion practise. Mrs Higley, Mrs Pimparel and I have been busy leading after school clubs and booster groups in school time and we have been most impressed with the progress the children are making. The children have been trying so hard and giving it their all. I know their teachers are very proud of them. Let's hope all their hard work pays off!

On Friday, the Year 2 children started their Viva Brazil topic and were looking at Fair Trade. The class got the large world map out onto the hall floor. They were given the challenge of looking at different packaging and finding out where it came from. The children really enjoyed placing the packaging on the world map and researching unusual place names and where to find them. Learning is so much better when it is not just from a text book, but is done practically. The PTA was so impressed they know want to buy a British Isles for the school.

First week back and we had a tournament. It was the Year 3 and 4 football tournament and both of our teams performed so well. They had a terrific attitude and represented the school so well. One of our teams made the final, after beating Malpas 1 - 0 in the semi-final. Sadly, they just fell short in the final against Tattenhall and lost 1 - 0.
