Headteacher Weekly blog week beginning 16th May

Date: 21st May 2016 @ 4:15pm

For the first time whilst I have been at Farndon we were able to get  both of the sports days done and dusted. Wednesday was touch and go with the weather forecast changing throughout the day. However, we were really lucky with the weather and both days were so much fun. I was so pleased to see the terrific attitude of all of our pupils. There were some memorable moments, some brilliant individual performances and some tense finishes. What was also great to see was how good the Year 6 pupils were when helping the younger children during their sports day. And I was also pleased to see examples of true sportmanship - where someone fell, there was someone there to help them up, encourage and support them. Willow were the victors this time, but Mr Erraji is considering taking the result of the men's race to a sporting tribunal.

A big thank you must also go to the PTA members who provided refreshments on both days. I believe that they have made over £600.

I was very impressed to see some Year 3 writing this week. They were learning all about Myths and Legends and were re-telling the story of Thesues and the Minotaur. Some of their accounts were incredible. They were full of 2A sentences with descriptive language, sentences joined with conjunctions and even prepositional phrase openers to sentences. Some children even opened their sentences with verb clauses. If this is what they writing in Year 3, I can't wait to see what they are producing in Year 6.

This week was dominated with the Year 2 pupils doing their SATs tests. I was so impressed with their attitude; they had so much confidence and gave it their all. Although they were challenging with a clear rise in expectations, the children were clearly well prepared Well done to them all - I am sure they have done well and can be proud of themselves.

Next week is an exciting one - it is Mrs Higley's science week so expect the unexpected! It should be lots of fun!! Keep an eye on twitter and the website for pictures of the different events.
