Head's blog Week Beginning 13th Ocotber

Date: 11th Oct 2014 @ 10:10am

It is weeks like last week where I am so glad I have the opportunity to write in a blog as I would not fit it all into one newsletter!

For enrichment of the curriculum, the Infant classes had an exciting trip to Knowsley Safari park. They had a fantastic time watching the Sea Lion show and seeing the wild animals prowl around their huge open enclosures. They also got to handle certain creatures in the teaching session. Then, this week we had Farndon's very own Safari Park; I saw poisonous frogs, beautiful butterflies, purring cats, snappy crocodiles and some ferocious lions with very loud roars!! The children seemed to have a fantastic Animal Day and I look forward to seeing their work on their Safari experience.

The Year 6 pupils had a busy week too! For 3 days they have been taking part in the Bikeability programme and learning how to ride their bike safely in the community. Everyone passed and received their certificates and the people leading the course once again commented on how wonderfully behaved the children were. Whilst some groups were out on their bikes, the rest of the children were busy in Technology week, making a marionette puppet. You would not believe how much fun children have sawing a piece of wood! Apparently, they plan to wear all different clothes that reflect different periods of children's history - can't wait to see those displayed.

We enjoyed another successful sporting week. Mr Bond was particularly proud of his Cross Country team and reminded me of the need of a trophy cabinet in the entrance hall for all his trophies!!!! Several children finished first and second in their races and we were the overall winners in all 3 competitions. Full reports can be found on the website. We have put a lot more effort as a school into preparing children for competitions and I am so pleased to see both the children enjoying themeslves but also performing so well for our School. Monday is our first Football match in the cup away to Oldfields Primary and we wish the team well.

Tuesday saw the start of our lunchtime gardening club. They are busy planting vegetables including onions and garlic and the idea is for us to sell them at the end of the school day once we are ready to harvest. Look out for our regular fruit and veg sales after school. This is part of our new Global Learning curiculum which will be a school focus this year and we hope to become a leading school in this field.

The school is certainly so busy and exciting at the moment and as someone commented recently when visiting the school it appears to be such a happy place as well. And that is when pupils learn best!
