Golden Mile

At Farndon, we are trying to encourage our pupils to lead a healthy lifestyle. Part of our work in this area is to encourage pupils to run during their breaktimes as part of the Golden Mile.

The Golden Mile is a safe, simple and measurable health & physical activity initiative accessible to all our pupils regardless of age or ability.

We aim to inspire and encourage our school community through physical activity with the focus on fun and rewarding personal achievement.

We reinforce the message from the Department of Health that children should engage in regular daily physical activity habits across the week, every week and all year round.

Our children have the option of running on two different tracks. Our Golden Mile ambassadors will set up a larger track on the field when it is in use; their will be Golden Mile markers to guide the way around the field. There is also an interactive track on the playground which is 114 metres. 16 laps would make the mile - or our pupils might choose to do the interactive version complete with sprint lanes, bunny hpps and hurdles.

The children are then asked to log what they haverun each break and then log it on their class tracker. Our Golden Mile Ambassadors in each class will then work hard each week to log all the distances travelled by our pupils. The distances travelled by each class will be shared in our Celebration assembly each week and we will have termly winners. There will also be certificates for those children who run 25 miles / 50 miles / 100 miles over the course of the year.
