Headteacher Weekly blog Wk beginning 8th June

Date: 13th Jun 2015 @ 1:45pm

This week saw an improvement in the weather and the school was as busy as always. Staff were relieved to get their staff room back and have enjoyed eating their dinner at an actual breakfast bar.

I have included  a picture of the den that nursery built in order to raise money for the Save The Children charity. They planned, built and decorated it all themselves. Mrs Roberts wanted to thank all the parents who helped to gain sponsors for their child throughout the week to support this charity. I thought the den looked absolutely fantastic. Well done Nursery.

In the Infants, we had a fantastic turn out from parents for the Pirate Gardens. All the children had an input into how they wanted the garden to look. It was the official opening on Friday and many parents came to see how hard the children had worked planting and designing how they wanted it to look. I think it would not have looked out of place in the Chelsea Flower Show! A big thank you to all those parents who came out in force to support the school.

This week I have been supporting some classes with their behaviour at playtimes - particularly working on social skills when playing football. I have enjoyed coaching the children and modelling good sportmanship and behaviour. I have been so impressed with their progress that I have organised a football match with St Oswalds Primary for the Year 3 and 4 children; only those children who can show they are taking on board the school values of responsibility, kindness and respect for their fellow players will be given the opportunity to play.

In respect of democracy, our school council interviewed our school cook this week and together they chose the new menus for next year. Also, the Tomorrow Party made an appearance at the Sports and Social Club forum meeting. They were so brave and shared what ideas they would like to see at the Club.

The week ended on a really positive note. We had moderators in school to look at our Year 6 writing. The moderator was very complimentary about the children's work and was quick to recognise the hard work of all the teachers in the Year 5 and 6 team. They were particualrly positive of the pupils' topic books. Well done Year 6 - your writing was fabulous and we are all so proud of you.

I can't wait to see what next week holds for our pupils.
